At TiggyWigs one of our main priorities is focusing on how a balance of healthy diet and exercise is fundamental to not only a child's well being but also to a healthy lifestyle later on in life. With this in mind, we offer a full day of healthy balanced food choices and encourage plenty of daily exercise both indoors or outside.  

 

To encourage the participation and understanding of healthy eating we have our own seperate open plan kitchen and dining area. Here the children can see food being prepared and served. The children are openly encouraged to discuss the food they are eating, discuss choices, what certain foods do to our bodies and feedback on their likes and dislikes.  We openly encourage the development of social skills at the table, show the children how to use a knife safely to cut food help them choose which is the most appropriate cutlery to use for different foods etc. 

 

The children also use the dining area to participate in the preperation of food for example, for tea they can make their own pizza from a choice of healthy toppings like corn, pinapple, ham, tomatoes etc. or they can make their own wraps or sandwiches again choosing from a variety of healthy fillings like chicken, humous, salad, cheese and cucumber. 

 

In the summer the children participate in growing potatoes, carrotts, peppers, tomatoes, courgettes and strawberries. The children plant them, watch them grow then eventually they help in washing and preparing them to eat. This gives the children a higher understanding of where food comes from apart from the shops!!!
